Abstract (EN)

We can say that, a town's identity, in a long time span, gives shape to that town and it forms itself with the towns geography, culture, architecture, traditions, life style, and all its genetic structure. However, in the world, and especially in our country, it is possible to talk about the lost identity of the towns rather than urban identity due to the negative factors that effect it such as the rapid change in the social and economic structure of the society, the developments in architectural styles, the global policies that effect developing countries, and similar elemants. In the first section of this study, the definition of the urban identity will be given in terms of concept, examples of urban identity will be given from Türkiye and the world, conservatism and its connections will be examined. The second section will cover the Identity and Conserving examples and the applications. Within the third section, the studies upon the urban identity of Çeşme and the elements of identity will be evaluated. Also within this chapter, the streets in Çeşme town center that should be protected, especially İnkılap Street, the prepositional studies on mass stabilization and street silhouttes will be displaed. In the fourth section, a supplement to the studies to form a "Design Guide Book" that covers all the work done to structure the Çeşme City. It should be known that this study is only a drill into the very deep topic of urban identity and that this is only a start for the thesis owner on this topic. In addition to this, by keeping the literary language and discriptions simple, it has been thought that it will adress to a very big proportion of the society who are interested in the topic.
