Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the pyrolysis of Linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) which is a oil crop and has been grown in Turkey, have been conducted in different pyrolysis conditions. The experiments were performed in slow, fast and flash pyrolysis conditions to investigate, particularly, the influence of pyrolysis temperature, heating rate, particle size and sweep gas velocity on the pyrolysis product yields. In addition, the pyrolysis oil obtained at the different conditions were characterised by using spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques. The maximum oil yields were obtained at pyrolysis temperature of 550°C and sweeping gas flow rate of 100 cm3/min. The optimum heating rate was investigated as 300 °C/ min at the fast pyrolysis studies. Then maximum oil yields of respectively % 46, % 59 and % 69 were obtained at slow pyrolysis, fast pyrolysis and flash pyrolysis. The chemical characterisation has shown that the oil obtained from linseed can be used as a renewable fuel and chemical feedstock. Keywords: Linseed, Pyrolysis, Biomass, Synthetic Fuels Energy
