Examination of personality organizations and humor styles in psycodynamic context

The main purpose of the present study is to examine the relationship between personality organizations and humor styles. In accordance with the purpose of the study, it was aimed to determine to what extent humor styles predicted the personality organizations. The sample of the study consists of 303 adult individuals between the ages of 18-65. Within the framework of the research hypotheses, several scales and test were applied to the participants following: Sociodemographic Information Form, Personality Organizations Inventory and Humor Styles Questionnaire were used as measurement tools. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), independent samples t-test, Pearson's correlation analysis and linear regression analysis were applied in the analysis of data. As a result of the analysis conducted, it was revealed that women tend to use more self-enhancing humor and less aggressive humor compared to men. Additionally, personality organizations have been found to differ depending on marital status; Single individuals have higher primitive defense, identity diffusion and reality test scores than married individuals. When humor styles were examined according to marital status, it was determined that single individuals had a higher level of self-enhancing humor use than married individuals. Finally, a statistically significant relationship was found between personality organizations and humor types. It was determined that as the level of affiliative humor increased, primitive defense and reality test levels decreased, and as maladaptive humor levels increased, identity organization subcategory levels increased. The findings of this study were discussed within the framework of the relevant literature and the contributions of the research were emphasized.
