The effect of duck syndrome on the individual in personal image formation

The concept of personal image is a concept that is gaining more and more importance today and has great importance in an individual's business life. Duck syndrome, on the other hand, is a concept that describes the conflict between the individual's personal image at work and the situation of hiding the difficulties she or he experiences. While the individual generally tries to leave a calm, successful and happy impression at work, there is intense effort and stress underneath this image. Duck syndrome can increase an individual's stress level in the long term and make it difficult to establish a healthy work-life balance. The purpose of this study was to determine whether duck syndrome has an effect on the image of private sector employees residing in Mardin province at their workplaces and, if so, to examine the burdens this situation creates on them. Within the scope of the study, data was obtained by conducting in-depth interviews with 23 participants from different professional groups. In line with the data obtained, it was determined that all employees created a new personal image at work and experienced duck syndrome. It has also been determined that employees have difficulties in the areas of health, personal image, family and social relations, time, psychology and economy. Despite their difficulties, employees make these difficulties bearable due to the status they achieve, living in better conditions, the positive comments they hear from those around them, and the fact that they attract more attention. While there is a relationship between demographic variables, gender, marital status, and duck syndrome; No relationship was found between age, income level, working hours and educational status and duck syndrome.
