The social position of women and men in classical and modern tafsir (Nesefi and Süleyman Ateş kıyaslaması)

This study titled 'The Social Position of Women and Men in Classical and Modern Tafsir (Nesefi-Süleyman Ateş Comparison)' focuses on the evaluation of the verses about women and men in classical and modern tafsir sources. The aim of the research is to declare the perception of the verses related to women and men comparatively in Abu'l Barakat al-Nesefi's "Madârik al-tanzil and hakaiku al-te'vil" from classical exegesis studies and Suleyman Ates' "Contemporary Exegesis of the Holy Qur'an" from contemporary exegesis studies; and to reveal the different and similar interpretations that occur at the point of the social position of women and men in the classical and contemporary exegesis that we have discussed in the research. In addition to the method of scanning the sources, the method of comparison and understanding/explanation has been used in the research. While discussing the interpretations of verses in the sources of tafsir, it is handled by the method of comparison with a periodic distinction. The study declares how different interpretations have emerged in the classical and contemporary tafsir tradition on the issues declared by the Qur'an about men and women, and tends to present the evidence on which the differences are based. In line with the information obtained in the research, it is seen that both exegetes reflect the value judgments of their own periods in their interpretations; In the classical period studies, it is understood that the conception of woman is in a position that is subordinate to man, pushed to the second plan, and has lost its social influence. In contemporary studies, on the other hand, some commentators have made interpretations that bring women to the forefront. In contemporary tafsir studies, different approaches have been tried to be put forward especially on current issues, attention has been paid to ensure that the language used is in a way that can appeal to today's modern people, and explanatory and satisfying details have been tried to be included in the verses, especially with a style that improves the social position of women.
