The relationship between oxidative stress levels and LDH and CK, CK-MB levels in patients with copd

Abstract (EN)

Aim: There is progressive airflow limitation in the airways as an inflammatory response of harmful gases and particles in COPD. Oxidative stress plays a role in the inflammatory process, cell and muscle destruction. PR is of great importance in restoring respiratory and skeletal muscle strength. In this study, the aim is to investigate the improvement of oxidative stress with PR, and its relationship with the direct indicator of thiols, disulfide and, indirect biochemical markers CK, CK-MB and LDH. Material and Method: The patients with COPD included as inpatient and outpatient. they were evaluated before and after for PR and exercise program was prescribed. And also, Thiols, disulfide, LDH, CK, CK-MB values tested. Results: The mean age of 21 patients was 63±7.31. Eleven of the patients were outpatient and 10 of them were inpatient. Majority of the patients were male (M/F=20/1, 95.2/4.8%). There was a significant difference in PFT, SGRQ, 1RM before and after treatment (p<0.001). There was a correlation between PFT and 1RM upper extremity. While there was no significant difference between thiols and DS, according to GOLD scores, there was a significant difference in patients with level 3-MMRC. No correlation was found between LDH, CK, CK-MB and thiols, DS. ΔCK was found to be associated with ΔDS, and ΔCK-MB with ΔNT, ΔTT. Conclusion: PR is contributes to antioxidant process by improving respiration and reduces oxidative stress. Decrease in LDH, CK with PR, increase in CK-MB, and correlation of CK with thiols and DS gave a different interpretation. In this case, it should be considered that oxidative stress may also be increased in people with high CK values.
