Abstract (EN)

In this study, it has been aimed to investigate what the effect on the daily oxygen concentrator usage time of health education given to patients with COPD. This study was carried out Kilis State Hospital Clinic and Polyclinic of Pulmonary Diseases in July-November 2015. Ethics committee approval was obtained for conducting the study. However, necessary permission was taken from the institution where the study was conducted and patients. Power analysis was made to determine the number of patients. Participants allocated into intervention and control groups by simple random sampling method and then, data form, in line with the literature and prepared in consultation with experts, were filled by face to face interview. At the beginning of the study, some data (pH, PaO2, PaCO2, FEV1, oxygen saturation) for the arrival time of the patients were recorded. After patients in the intervention group were educated, educational booklet prepared by the researcher was given. Adaptations problem of patients were corrected the four-week intervals a total of three times by calling. After the last meeting, data forms of patients in both groups were filled again; the results were compared with previous clinical findings. Student t test, chi-square, paired t test, One-Way Anova test, frequency and percentage distributions were used in evaluation of the data. Control group were given educational booklet at the end of the study. 65.1% of patients was determined that use previously smoking; 95.5% of patients was determined no get information about the use of OC. When clinical findings in pre-post education were compared; daily OC usage time, PaO2, PaCO2, FEV1 and oxygen saturation of patients in the intervention group were showed a significant improvement (p<0.05), in the control group were only determined to be an improvement in the number of exacerbations during the last three months (p<0.05). In daily OC usage time and the clinical parameters of patients in the intervention group were observed a significant improvement. Accordingly, it may be recommended that ensuring continuity of training that will given to patients and close monitoring of patient results.
