ABSTRACTPhD ThesisTHE PRODUCTION OF COBALT BASED ALLOYS WITH POWDER METALLURGYPROCESS, AND THE INVESTIGATION OF MICROSTRUCTURE AND MECHANICALPROPRETIES OF THESE ALLOYSlyas SOMUNKIRANFırat UniversityGraduate School of Natural and Applied SciencesDepartment of Metallurgy Education2006, Page: 154Nowadays, The usage of implant materials instead of the limbs which lose their function andall sorts of disablement is rapidly grown. For this reason, a research for the material which is suitableto the condition of usage, physical characteristics and chemical resistance is done. Cobalt based alloysare extensively used in application requiring good wear resistance, corrosion and heat resistances. This study based on a research about the wear and mechanical behavior of Co-based Co-Cr-Mopowder alloys with different chromium contents. In order to determine the some mechanical propertiesand wear resistance of the produced samples, they are applied to some mechanical and abrasive weartests. The samples produced by using ?Powder Metallurgy Method? without any material loss arecompared with the implant possessing the mechanical properties as stated in ASTM F75 and theresults of comparing are interpreted. The effects of compression pressure to the density andmicrostructure, the ones of sintering to the some mechanical properties and wear resistance areresearched. Metallographic studies are performed in order to determine the microstructure of theproduced implant (samples) in detail. Keywords: Powder Metallurgy, Abrasive Wear, Co Based Alloys, Implant Alloys
