Power technology of cogeneration plants

Recently, cogeneration power plants have been widely used in the production of heat and electricity throughout the world. By the years of 2005, 22 % of energy production in Turkey is expected to be provided by the cogeneration power plants. In this study, power technologies used in cogeneration power plants are explained and compared in different aspects. Introduction to fuels in cogeneration power plants is given. In the world and Turkey, evaluation of cogeneration power plants are examined and some of them are pointed out. The trigeneration systems that include both heat, electricity and cooling requirements of the facility are introduced. Technical and economical factors included in the cogeneration power plant feasibility are explained. The environmental and health effects of the cogeneration power plants are also mentioned.
