Abstract (EN)
This study presents the analysis of berth occupancy ratios which have a significant effect in port planning and design. Berth occupancy ratios were determined by Artifical Neural Networks method, instead of conventional analytical methods. The data from İzmir Alsancak Container Terminal for the year 2006 were used in modelling. The ships were analyzed depending on their lengths, berth service times. The lengths, service times of the ships and quay length were introduced to the Artificial Neural Networks model as input data, where the relevant berth occupancy ratios were introduced as target data. Artificial Neural Networks were trained and tested with these data, without any further assumptions. The results of the model were compared with the actual data from İzmir Alsancak Container Terminal. The berth occupany ratios were succesfully determined by using a random modelling that is associated to the ship length, service time and quay length.
