Abstract (EN)

The use of rule based design in the architectural design accelerated parallel to theimprovements in the computer technologies. In order to take the full advantage of theseimprovements, the designer needs not only to master the design process but also the computercode, or at least take some assistance in that area. The main objective of rule based design ismanufacturing products that comply with all given criterion. Which means the products willbe different but will also have similar characteristics according to the design parameters.Mardin is a suitable candidate for such a study with rule based design. Because thearchitecture of Mardin has its own language, rules of which, can be interpreted into acomputer code. After co-working with a computer programmer, a program that uses rulebased design has been developed. This program gives alternatives to the designer in thepreliminary design phase for Mardin style residences.
