Investigation of the relationship between M-mode measurements and Pro-BNP and CK-MB in mitral valve regurgitation in dogs

Abstract (EN)

In the present study, the relationship between M-Mode measurements, Pro-BNP and CK-MB was investigated comparatively in dogs diagnosed with different degrees of mitral regurgitation by echocardiographic examination. Pro-BNP and CK-MB levels and their correlations with each other and with echocardiographic measurement data were evaluated in control and study group dogs. A total of 20 dogs of different breeds, age and sex, 10 of which had any degree of mitral valve insufficiency (study group) and 10 healthy dogs (control group) constituted the material. Cardiac examination was performed as part of the routine echocardiographic procedure. The mitral valve was evaluated using right and left parasternal windows. 2D, colour doppler and CW doppler measurements were used in echocardiographic examination. In addition, ProBNP and CK-MB levels were determined in serum samples. The results revealed statistically significant differences in Pro-BNP, MR-Vmax, EPSS and MR-PGmax values between the healthy and mitral regurgitation groups. There was a strong positive correlation between Pro-BNP and MR-Vmax and a very strong positive correlation between FS and EF values. Although no significant correlation was determined between M-Mode measurements and biochemical parameters, a significant difference was detected in terms of EPSS value in intergroup comparison. The data obtained emphasise the importance of Doppler echocardiography (colour and CW) in the clinical-laboratory evaluation of mitral valve regurgitation and diseases for dogs, as well as the priority of Pro-BNP as a more valuable parameter than CK-MB. EF and FS should be evaluated together in patient analysis.
