Effects of the functıonal and physıologıcal parametres on mortalıty ın chronıc obstructıve pulmonary disease cases

Data about the COPD cases, who applied to pulmonary medicine clinic between Jully 2004 and November 2005 evaluated. Demographics, comorbidities, spirometric parametres, COPD stages, COPD fenotypes, smoking situations, body mass indexes, SF-36 and SGRQ health quality questionary parametres, six minute walking test distances, dyspnea scales and BODE indexes of the cases are used. Vitality of the cases at January 2009 and causes of mortality in case of death are analysed.427 cases are included to the study. We had seen that 17.3% of the cases were dead at the end of the four years. Deaths were related to pulmonary causes firstly and secondly cardiac causes. Deaths, depended to lung cancer were very high as 31%.Age, smoking situation, COPD stage, FEV1(lt), FEV1%predicted, FVC(lt), FVC%predicted, FEV1/FVC, PEF(lt/minute), PEF%predicted, FEF 25/75(lt) ve FEF 25/75% predicted, comorbidity, dyspnea scales according to Modified Borg Scale and MMRC, six minute walking test distance, BODE index, oxygen saturation after six minute walking test, physical function, physical role, emotional role and energy scores of SF-36 and all the parametres of SGRQ were associated statisticaly significant with mortality.COPD is a disease with a high mortality rate and there are many factors affecting mortality. Due to existing these many affecting factors, patients and risky cases should be informed about this point and provided to understand the importance of the problem.
