Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, quaternary ammonium functional resin synthesis and hexavalent chromium (Cr(IV)) adsorption parameters of the obtained resin were investigated. For this purpose, poly(vinyl benzyl chloride) polymer was synthesized and some of the benzyl chloride functionality was converted to the quaternary ammonium group. Then, quaternary ions were formed using N, N-dimethylformamide, and thus hexavalent resin polymer was obtained. The obtained resin was characterized by different techniques. To investigate the Cr(IV) adsorbing behavior of the resin, pH, temperature, amount of adsorbent material, and amount of adsorbed material were studied. The results obtained show that the synthesized resin has high Cr(IV) adsorbing ability under the determined optimum conditions. Adsorption kinetics and thermodynamic studies related to the obtained results were carried out. It was determined that the kinetics of Cr(IV) adsorption was pseudo second-order, and the adsorption isotherms conformed to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. In addition, the ΔH° value showed that the adsorption process was physical adsorption, the ΔS° value increased the irregularity at the adsorbent/adsorbate interface, and the ΔG° value revealed that the adsorption process was self-propelled
