Abstract (EN)
This study aims to examine the TikTok usage habits of Generation Z and the effects of this platform within the framework of the Uses and Gratifications Theory. TikTok, with its short video content, is a social media platform that has quickly gained popularity by capturing the attention of young users. This research analyzes the reasons why Generation Z individuals use TikTok, their usage durations, and the platform's effects on their social interactions, information-seeking processes, and entertainment habits. An online survey was conducted with 351 Generation Z individuals, and the collected data were evaluated in terms of TikTok usage motivations and outcomes. The results indicate that Generation Z primarily uses TikTok to fulfill their needs for entertainment, information, socialization, and self-expression. Moreover, it was determined that the platform significantly impacts young people and has become an integral part of their daily lives. This study reveals that TikTok usage has significant impacts not only on an individual level but also on a societal level. Specifically, TikTok plays an important role in strengthening young people's social bonds, gaining information about current events, and expressing their creativity. However, excessive use of TikTok could potentially lead to certain negative effects. These findings contribute to our understanding of TikTok as a platform for young people and how it integrates into their lives. The research results provide various recommendations for educational institutions, parents, and content creators. Educators and parents can guide young people toward more conscious and controlled use of TikTok, while content creators can adopt a more responsible approach by producing content that appeals to young people's interests and meets their developmental and personal needs.
