Abstract (EN)
IV SUMMARY Master Thesis INVESTIGATION OF APPROPRIATE OF EXPERIMENTALLY OBSERVED HEADLOSS TO THEORETICAL MODELS IN SAND FILTERS Halil HASAR Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Environmental Engineering 1997, Page: 61 The observations in filtration experiments are generally restricted to the monitoring of headloss and filtrate concentration (in mass units). Based on these values, while the estimates of the absoiut specific deposit values (m/v) are possible experimentally, the estimates of the bulk specific deposit values are possible using headloss models. In many previous studies, a term known as the bulk factor is incorporated into the modelling of the filtration process such that the product of the bulk factor with the absolute specific deposit, gives an estimate of the bulk specific deposit (v/v). In these investigations, the bulk factor is treated as constant. Alternatively, other researchers have obtained theorically the variation of the bulk factor with the absolute specific deposit by using Kozeny's headloss model. This study presents a novel approach based on the comparison of values obtained through the computer programming with the experimental values. However, it is shown that the best finding headloss model through this approach is Camp's headloss model. Key Words: Filtration, headloss, absolute specific deposit, bulk specific deposit, bulk factor
