The hand in the Quran, the concept and the semantics

It is quite important to identify the correct meanings of words and concepts in the apprehension and interpretation of religious texts. It is known that the messages which the sacred texts want to give to addressees are realized through the words, concepts and sentences which are important elements of the language-Accurate understanding of words and concepts makes significant contributions to the understanding of religious texts. The reason why such a study is desired is the multiplicity of meanings given to the words "hand" by the commentaturs and the conflicts about what it means in different verses. This thesis named "The Hand in the Qur'an, The Concept and The Semantics" was chosen in order to contribute to the matter of how the word "hand" is understood and how it should be understood in different verses. In this thesis, firstiy the meaning of the word "hand" in the lexicons and then the meaning that are attributed to it in the books of Vucuh (sience which deals with word with multiple meanings), Nazair (sience which deals with the groups of words with same meaning but differing in written form and pronunciation) and Kalam (sience which deals with fundamental Islamic beliefs and doctrines) were tried to be determined. Another thing that was tried to be determined is how many times and in which forms the word "hand" were mentioned in Qur'an. The elements that are attributed to the word "hand" by the commentators who has different religios convictions were also tried to be determined. Finally, the meanings of the word "hand" given by the commentators and how it is reflected to the interpretations were studied by comparison.
