Abstract (EN)

The principles of corporate governance, which have been debated and researched in different aspects since the 1990s in the globalized world, have gradually increased its importance. First, the OECD (Organisation For Economic Co-Operation And Developmen) published the corporate governance principles in 1999 and edited them in 2004. In Turkey SPK (Capital Markets Board) has published the principles of corporate governance in line with the edition of OECD and revised them in 2005. Especially in 2012, there were serious changes when the new Turkish Commercial Code and the new Capital Market Law came into force. In recent years, many companies have started to use the corporate governance principles. Companies have started to make compliance ratings with independent auditing organizations using the principles of corporate governance to inform their shareholders and started to publicize these reports. The most important goal in the development of corporate governance practices is to increase the capital gain by gaining the trust of investors. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effects of corporate governance practices on firm performance of companies included in BIST (Stock Exchange İstanbul) corporate governance index. For this purpose, companies in the BIST will be examined between the years 2015-2018.
