Abstract (EN)
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the world, caused by uncontrolled proliferation of cells in the breast tissue. The aim of this study was to perform biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using Rosa canina extract and to evaluate their cytotoxic effects on breast cancer cells MCF7 in vitro. Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles was performed using an aqueous extract of Rosa canina. The synthesized silver nanoparticles (Rc-AgNP) were characterized by various analytical techniques such as UV-visible spectrophotometer (UV-vis) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). MCF-7 cells were treated with increasing concentrations of Rc-AgNPs (0-20 μg/mL) for 48 hours and the cytotoxic effects of biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles on MCF-7 cells were evaluated by MTT assay. It was observed that Rc-AgNPs induced a significant increase of cell death in breast cancer cells compared to control group in dose dependent manner. The IC50 value was 4.69 μg/mL. This study demonstrated that Rosa canina extract can be used for biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles and biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles has promising potential for the treatment of breast cancer.
