Abstract (EN)

This study is based on metaphors on Kutadgu Bilig and their commentations with regard to cognitive semantics. On the first section, which is the introduction part of the study, the metaphor is scrutinized by it's structure, variety and other features, within the scope of cognitive semantics. Afterwards, Karakhanid Turkish, which is accepted as the beginning of Middle Turkic period, and it's literature is explained in brief, then the writer of Kutadgu Bilig is introduced shortly.On the third, fourth and fifth sections of the study, metaphors that took place in Kutadgu Bilig, which has great importance by being one of the first written examples of Turkish language and having the vocabulary it has, are determined by classifying systematically, and evaluated by their structres and contents broadly. While metaphors are being classified and evaluated according to Lakoff-Johnson's division on the third section, they are approached by their area of using on the fourth section of the study. On the fifth section, which is the latest section of this study, other tropes similitude ise dwelled on and the relations between similitude and metaphor are defined.On the conclusion part, which can be considered as a diachronic semantic research on Kutadgu Bilig, the style of Kutadgu Bilig was tried to be assessed relying on metaphors. Apart from this, the mental and cultural factors which shaped Turkish are determined. On the end of the study, the index of metaphors found on Kutadgu Bilig is placed at the thought of any contribution on semantics and metaphors.
