Abstract (EN)

This study carried out for determining heavy metal contamination of the surface and groundwaters of Kutahya and Kopruoren Plains and to specified the effectiveness of these contaminations. The study started with literature review and preliminary field studies. Coordinates of sampling locations was taken using GPS device and transferred to map sets with GIS based software. At the next stage, physical measurements and sampling were made from the surface and groundwater these locations. Hydrogeological and electrical conductivity maps were acquired with obtained data. Chemical analyzes were conducted to determine the major ion and trace element concentrations of the sampled samples. According to chemical analysis results, major ion distribution maps were created and geochemical characteristics of water and its distribution in the plain were determined. According to this, it is seen that the chemical facies of the groundwaters of the region are controlled by dissolution of carbonated rocks. The waters where trace element concentrations reach high ppb values indicate that some parts of the area are exposed to human-induced and/or geogenic contaiminant. Arsenic(As) values are over 10 ppb and exceed limit values in the L1, L2, L6, L7, L11, L30, L32, L36, L37 and L43 locations in both of plain. Lead (Pb) concentrations are above 10 ppb and exceed limit values in L2 locations. Iron (Fe) concentrations were above 200 ppb exceed limit values in L34 and L35. Antimony (Sb) concentrations were above 5 ppb and exceed suggested limit values in L2, L11, L30 and L32. Zinc (Zn) concentrations are above 100 ppb in L10, L15, L25, L29, L30, L35 and L36. Manganese (Mn) concentrations exceed 50 ppb and exceed limit values in L9 location. The suitability of these waters as drinking water was determined according to National and International Quality Standarts. In addition, the suitability of these waters as agricultural irrigation has been determined. Keywords: Natural Contamination, Trace Element, Contamination, Kopruoren, Kutahya, Groundwater
