Conservation and restoration of the manuscript no.3313 of the Qur'an, preserved in the Vahid Pasha Library in Kutayha

The subject of this thesis is the conservation and restoration work on a Qur'an manuscript written for Uzbek Khan, catalogued under inventory number 3313, in the Vahid Pasha Collection of the Kütahya Vahid Pasha Manuscript Library. Due to the fact that the manuscript in question is a Qur'an, the history of the Qur'an has been discussed first. Following the compilation of the Qur'an's pages, the importance of the decorations and embellishments created due to people's devotion and reverence for the divine Word of the Qur'an, in terms of providing insights into the social structure of the time, has been emphasized. Subsequently, it is highlighted that these manuscripts, which enlighten us about past eras, are historical documents. It has also been mentioned that people have had a tendency to protect and preserve objects they have valued and bonded with since ancient times. This inclination towards preservation has laid the foundation for conservation and restoration efforts. Based on this, conservation and restoration in our country has been explained. Information about the libraries to which the manuscript belongs and is associated with has been provided. The study also includes information about the ruler to whom the manuscript was dedicated, its author, and its content. The documentation, analyses, conservation work and the condition of the manuscript before and after conservation during the study have been presented both in writing a visually. This study aims to understand and convey how to approach the deterioration a manuscript has been subjected to and what kinds of procedures it has undergone. All the conservation work on the manuscript has been carried out at the Manuscript Institution of Türkiye, Book Repair Workshop and Archive Department.
