Abstract (EN)

In this study, some of the chemical and physical parameters were measured in water samples taken from 4 stations on Kızık Pond, which is located within the borders of Tokat province, between November 2016 and October 2017. These stations were selected east, southeast and southwest parts of the Kızık Pond and the point, where Miçöz Brook poured into the pond (at northeastern side of the pond). Throughout the study, samples were taken monthly from the four sampling stations, and the values (general mean, standard error, and seasonal mean) obtained during 12 months were examined. In order to determine the water quality, the samples taken from all four sampling stations were examined in terms of dissolved oxygen (mg/L), salinity, pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, suspended solid matters (mg/L), chemical oxygen demand (mg/L), biological oxygen demand (mg/L), chloride (mg/L), phosphate (mg/L), sulfate (mg/L), sulfite (mg/L), sodium (mg/L), potassium (mg/L), total hardness (mg/L), total alkalinity (mg/L), magnesium (mg/L), calcium (mg/L), nitrite (mg/L), nitrate (mg/L), ammonium salt (mg/L), ferrous (mg/L), lead (µg/L), copper (µg/L), cadmium (µg/L), mercury (µg/L), nickel (µg/L), and zinc (µg/L) (totally 28 parameters). The annual mean values of the parameters were statistically compared between the seasons, and it was determined that Güneykaya Pond has Class III. water quality level according to the Surface Water Quality Management Regulation (SWQMR). According to the SWQMR criteria, it can be seen that there is no remarkable pollution problem in the pond. Moreover, the water quality was found to be suitable for raising cold water fishes such as trout.
