The Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe was rejected by France and the Netherlands in referendums that occurred respectively on 29 May and 1 June 2005. As Turkey was the focus of intense debate during the period prior to the referendum on the European Constitution in France, it seems worthy of analysis if `The Turkish question? was an important factor leading to the rejection of the Constitutional Treaty.
