Abstract (EN)

This thesis approaches military uniforms as a type of clothing that functions as a leadership indicator. With their distinctive design features, symbols, and accessories, military uniforms evoke certain perceptions and lead to various inferences about the wearer. Their powerful communicative functions make them an interesting subject of study. Charismatic political leaders in particular provide an effective context for examining how meanings are constructed and perceived by enhancing the communicative power of the uniform. Accordingly, this thesis aims to reveal the messages and myths conveyed through the uniform of charismatic political leaders wearing military uniforms and to explore how these myths can be expressed and interpreted through art practices. A practice-based research method was employed in the study. In the research phase, semiotic analysis was used to examine the military uniforms worn by charismatic political leaders determined in the literature and the messages and myths conveyed by the uniforms were revealed. This analysis has led to the emergence of a set of concepts in which the military uniform is understood to have a dual character, symbolically and perceptually. In the practice phase, these concepts were transformed into artistic works. In this way, the study researched the meanings evoked by uniforms in various contexts and provided an alternative platform for interpreting the findings. The resulting practices demonstrated how and in what ways the dual character of the uniform can be reflected through art practices. In conclusion, this thesis has not only shed light on their perceptual meanings and the communicative dimension of military uniforms but also demonstrated their potential as a tool for inquiry in practiced studies. In this way, it has made significant contributions to both academic and artistic discourses by building a bridge between research and practice processes.
