Abstract (EN)
This research is a descriptive study that aims to investigate whether the subjective well being of high school students predicted by gender, class level, type of school, social support (family support, friend support, special person support) and self- esteem.Study group of the research consists of total 398 students comprising of 193 female and 205 male student who attend general high schools, anatolian high schools and vocational high schools in Çankaya, Keçiören and Altındağ districts of Ankara in the 2007-2008 academic year.In order to determine subjective well being level, the social support system and the level of self-esteem of high school students; ?Subjective Well Being Scale For High School Form?, ?Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support? and ?Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory? were used respectively. On data analyses, ?Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis? technique was used. All the hypothesies are tested at .05 alpha level. The analysis revealed that self esteem, family support and friend support are significant predictors of subjective well being. These variables explained 63.5% of total variance on subjective well being. Gender, class level, type of school and special person support are not significant predictors at .05 significance level. These findings show that when the self-esteem, family support and friend support level of high school students increase, the subjective well being of high school students also increase. Findings were discussed through relevant studies and suggestions have been made.Key Words: Subjective Well Being, Social Support, Self Esteem.
