Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine the relationship between phubbing and subjective well-being among high school students. The sample of the study consists of 694 students (360 girls, 336 boys) attending high schools in the Çankaya district of Ankara. To collect data from the sample, the Personal Information Form, the General Phubbing Scale, and the Adolescent Subjective Well-Being Scale were used. The Shapiro-Wilk and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests were applied to determine whether the scales showed a normal distribution. Cronbach's Alpha value was examined to determine the reliability of the study. After assessing the conformity of the data to the normal distribution, parametric tests were used for data showing a normal distribution, and non-parametric tests were used for data not conforming to the normal distribution. In this context, according to the results of the normal distribution tests, t-tests were used for two-category variables, and ANOVA analysis was used for variables with more than two categories to test the hypotheses where parametric test assumptions were met. Correlation and regression analyses were conducted to determine the relationship, direction, and strength of the relationship between variables. The analyses revealed a significant negative relationship between phubbing and subjective well-being. Additionally, the sub-dimensions of phubbing namely interpersonal conflict and self-isolation, were found to significantly negatively predict subjective well-being. The findings were discussed in light of relevant studies in the literature, and various recommendations were made to researchers and practitioners. Key words: Phubbing, Subjective well-being, High school students.
