Abstract (EN)

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the level of awareness, adoption tendencies, and key challenges related to the concept of Logistics 4.0 among internationally operating businesses located in the provinces of Adana and Mersin. The study employs a qualitative research design, utilizing the phenomenological method. Semi structured interview questions were used in in depth interviews. In selecting the firms, the knowledge and experience of industry professionals and academics were consulted. The findings reveal that businesses in the region have limited knowledge of Logistics 4.0 and that overall awareness levels are low. Additionally, difficulties in accessing the financial resources necessary for digital transformation have been identified as a major barrier to the adoption of new technologies. According to the research results, the majority of businesses still suffer from basic digital infrastructure deficiencies. Although some companies attempt to ensure transparency and visibility in supply chain processes through digital tools, traditional operational methods generally prevail. Automation is typically limited to warehouse management, and the use of robotic systems is nearly nonexistent.Although participants noted that Logistics 4.0 technologies contribute to sustainability, these contributions are mostly indirect. They also reported using digital tools such as real time tracking and automatic notifications to enhance customer experience. Awareness regarding digital security was found to be low, although large scale firms were better prepared in this area. Firms engaged in international operations tend to utilize Logistics 4.0 tools more extensively. Most businesses lack a structured digital transformation or sustainability strategy. Participants indicated that they prioritize goals related to employment and economic growth. This study offers an original contribution to the literature by providing a local and practice oriented perspective on Logistics 4.0, in contrast to the predominantly macrolevel and theoretical approaches in existing research. The data collected through face to face interviews offer unique insights based on the direct experiences of industry representatives and reveal the current state of fieldlevel implementations of Logistics 4.0. Moreover, the study highlights the financial and institutional deficiencies encountered during the digital transformation process and draws attention to policy gaps in these areas. The findings underscore the need for awarenessraising activities and the development of both institutional and public support mechanisms to promote the adoption of Logistics 4.0 practices at the local level. In this context, the study offers several recommendations for policymakers and industry stakeholders.
