Abstract (EN)

The general cargo ships constitute one third of the world merchant fleet with approximately having some 270 million DWT cargo capacity. They are the second largest ship types after tankers, im respect to the size and cargo capacity, which mainly utilized to carry large quantities of dry bulk cargo. Today these ships carry approximately 2 billion tons of cargo consisting dry bulk raw materials of iron ore, coal, grains, phosphate and finished products like steel, cement, fertilizer and sugar annually. In order to survive and thrive in nowadays highly competitive market, designers and shipbuilders should be capable of offering optimum, low costed designs in a very limited time to the customers.and designers must have the flexibility to generate alternative concepts according customer needs. Also design design period must?nt hold up the manufacturing process after contract had been signed between customer and shipyard. Especially approving of the class drawings is an important period of the design process. In this study main parameters those effects the ship design, duration of ship claasification are examined and basic construction drawings of a general cargo ship are drawn.
