Abstract (EN)
This is the first study in Turkey on the chemistry and biological activity of Lycium species which have been widely used as folk medicine in China and several Asian countries. Wild crafted fruits of Lycium barbarum and L. ruthenicum collected in Turkey were subjected to general chemical tests and accordingly reducing compounds, phenolics and anthocyanines were assayed by UV/VIS spectrophotometry and High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Volatile compounds were analysed by Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). Studies were initiated on acute toxicity, bioactivity and free radical scavenging activity. Keywords : Lycium barbarum, Lycium ruthenicum, Solanaceae, High Pressure Liquid Chromatography, Free Radical Scavenging Activity
