Determination of the healty lifestyle behaviors of high school students in Sarigöl District in Manisa

Abstract (EN)

Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine health promotion behaviors of third and fourth grades of high school students in Sarıgöl district and the demographic characteristics affecting these behaviors . Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, the target population consisted 460 high school students and 449 of them constituted the sample of the study. İncluding in Sarıgöl district in 2016-2017 education year. The data were collected anonymous questionnaire healthy lifestyle behaviors scale (SYBD) -II scale adapted to Turkish by Akça (1988). During the data analysis process of the study, means, standart deviations, frequencies were prepared a descriptive statistics and, Independent Sample t test, One-Way ANOVA, Tukey HSD post hoc, chi-square test and regression analysis were used. Findings: Among the participating students 41,2% were male, 58,8% were females. The mean age was 17,63 (16-18) years. As to the scores of Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors-II scale subscales; the mean score of health responsibility subscale was found as 17,81±4,78, physical activity as 16,09±5,37, nutrition as 19,87±4,72, spiritual development as 25,57±5,14, interpersonal relations as 24,48±5,22, the stress management subscale point average was found as 18,89±4.34, and the mean total score was found as 122,75±22,12. Compared with other studies, the results were moderate. Conclusion: The highest score average was found in the spiritual development subscale and lowest score average was found in the physical activity subscale. Adolescent development should be monitored and healthy lifestyle behaviors should be supported for a healthy community.
