Hepatic hemangiomas which diagnosed with magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasonography was evulated with Tc-99m-(V)DMSA and Tc-99m labeled erythrocytes scintigraphy

Cavernous hemangioma is the most frequent benign tumour of the liver and its prevalence in the general population is in between 1% and 7 %.The main objective of our study was to evaluate the scanning efficiency of Tc-99m-(V)-DMSA and in-vivo Tc-99m labeled erythrocyte scintigraphy in patients who, using MRI and USG, had been diagnosed with liver hemangioma. The research was carried out on 11 patients, (six females and five males) with a mean age of 48.1±10.5 years. The age interval was between 33 and 66 years. In total 16 hemangiomas were included. The patients were evaluated at the Nuclear Medicine Department using SPECT marked with Tc-99m-(V)DMSA and in-vivo Tc-99m in the interval of 7 ? 3 days. In our study, out of 16 hemangiomas, Tc-99m marked erythrocyte accumulation was seen in 11 (68.8%); Two of them were smaller than 3 cm and while the other 9 was 3 cm or larger. In 5 hemangiomas, Tc-99m labeled erythrocyte accumulation was not seen (31.3%). In this group, 2 hemangiomas were smaller than 3 cm and three were 3 cm or larger. 16 hemangiomas were diagnosed in the total of 11 patients (6 females and 5 males). Tc-99m-(V) DMSA was accumulated in 8 hemangiomas (50%). Two of them were smaller than 3 cm and 6 were 3 cm or larger. Evident Tc-99m-(V) DMSA accumulation was not seen in the other 8 hemangiomas (50%). Two were smaller than 3 cm and 6 were 3 cm or larger. There was no statistical difference in between labelled erythrocyte scintigraphy and 30 min. Tc-99m-(V)DMSA SPECT (p>0,05). Our study showed that there was Tc-99m-(V)DMSA accumulation in % 50 of the hemangiomas.
