Form analysis of clarinet sonata of Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco Op.128 and evaluation of it in terms of performance

Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco, born in Italy, is a pianist of Jewish origin, a representative of Neoclassicism, Neoromanticism, opera, singing, chamber music and film music composer. The clarinet sonata Op.128, which is the subject of this study, was written in 1945, during the Second World War. But it could not be reproduced for various reasons, and was published in 1977 after the rights were purchased by the Ricordi company and an edition was made by Guiseppe Garbarino. As the composer wrote in his autobiography, this sonata is influenced by Brahms and Saint Saens, and is a little-known, highly impressive and long piece in the Turkish clarinet classical repertoire. In this study, first of all written and internet resources about the composer's life, his works, the structure of the sonata form work and in the 20.th century and the musical stracture of the work examined. In the part that constitutes the main subject of the thesis, general information about the work, the form of the work and its structural analysis in terms of clarinet performance are made in four sections. In the performance analysis of the work, the musical term information that will be required in the clarinet performance and the technical and musical passages that come to the fore in the performance are mentioned.
