Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of mat pilates exercises and reformer pilates exercises on spinal stabilization in female individuals who regularly do pilates. The study was conducted as a randomized controlled clinical trial. 40 female individuals aged 30-50 years participating in the study were divided into 20 reformer pilates groups and 20 mat pilates groups. Spinal stabilization exercise on the reformer was applied to the participants in the reformer pilates group for 50 minutes, 2 days a week for 4 weeks. Spinal stabilization exercise planning on the mat was applied to the participants in the mat pilates group for 50 minutes, 2 days a week for 4 weeks. Spinal stabilization strength of the cores was measured with a stabilizer device 4 weeks before and after. It was found that trunk spinal stabilization strength increased within the groups, but there was no statistically significant difference in trunk spinal stabilization strength between the two groups (p>0.512). Both mat pilates and Reformer pilates exercise methods are not superior to each other in terms of spinal stabilization and muscle strength development. Both Reformer and mat can be used to practice Pilates exercises. It was observed that the exercises performed with the reformer device and the mat pilates exercises had a similar effect.
