Mawardi and his commentary al-Nukat wa'l-Uyun

ABSTRACT In this thesis titled "Mâvvardî and His Commentary al-Nukat wa'l-Uyun" MawardT's life (364-450/974-1058), his works and his commentary are examined from the different aspects. The aim of the study is help to the introduce the methods of Quranic interpretations in eleventh century. Here, The Holy Quran, tafsîr (The Quranic commentary), hadîth (The Prophet's sayings), Islamic theology, figh (The Islamic law), dictionaries, biography sources and that we can get information from works on MawardT, are searched thoroughly. This study consists of an introduction and three chapters: In the introduction; the MawardT's life, the era that he lived in and his works were examined from the different aspects. In the first chapter; some distinctive features of al-Nukat wa'l-Uyun were touched upon, It's sources also examined. In the second chapter; al-Nukat wa'l-Uyun was examined from the view point of a I -Tafsîr bi'l-Rivâyah, in the third chapter form the view point of al- Tafsîr bi'l-Dirâyah/Ra'y. Lastly; the results that got from this thesis were explained. XI
