ABSTRACTMaster of Science ThesisIN VITRO RESEARCH OF SOME PLANT EXTRACT?S EFFECT ON ACTINCYTOSKELETON IN MAMMALIAN CELL CULTURESNİLAY ÇEVİKAnadolu UniversityGraduate School of SciencesBiology ProgramSupervisor: Assist. Prof. Dr. A. Tansu Koparal2006, 83 pagesIn this thesis, A549, V79 379A, CHO cells are treated by various doses of plant extracts(monoterpenes, essential oils). Monoterpenes are; thymol, carvacrol, L-menthol and 1, 8cineol; essential oils are; Salvia fruticosa (garden sage), Laurus nobilis (laurel), Origanumonites (garden thyme) and Pimpinella anisum (anise). Actin filaments are elements of the cellcytoskeleton that functions are cell division and progress, cell motility. Effects of somemonoterpenes and essential oils on F-actin filaments in A549, V79 379A and CHO cells werestudied. In these studies we used Phalloidin (FITC). Increasing of these test doses are causedsome changes of cell morphology and F-Actin filaments. Keywords: Essential Oils, F-Actin, Cell Cytoskeleton, Monoterpenes, Phalloidin(FITC).
