Woman at Memet Baydur theaters

The main purpose of this thesis is to examine the functions of female characters in Memet Baydur theaters in the light of this development by talking about the development processes of feminism, feminist movement and feminist literature in the world and in Turkey. Before examining the position of women in Memet Baydur's theaters, the development of the women's movement in the world and in Turkey has been revealed. After mentioning the prominent women's movements in the world, the steps taken on behalf of the women's movement in Turkey were mentioned. After giving information about the development of feminist theory and literary criticism, Memet Baydur's life and art are discussed. After an overview of Memet Baydur's playwriting, in the section titled "Women in Memet Baydur Theaters", the author's twenty plays were analyzed in terms of the way they positioned women, while other works of the author were also used. The subject of women, which is basically examined with six functions, namely, the woman in the protagonist position in the plays, moral and social norms, oppression and violence, education, marriage, and sexuality, has been approached from a feminist perspective. The functions of the women in the plays were examined in the context of the text. While making these studies, text-based criticism and feminist criticism methods were used. In the conclusion part, it is stated that Memet Baydur does not position the female characters in the background; It was concluded that women made a progress within their education levels, emotional states and possibilities, but the author did not offer any solution for this development.
