Abstract (TR)
HI STUDIES ON THE FAUNA AND TAXONOMY OF PAPILIONOIDEA AND HESPERIOIDEA OF THE CENTRAL ELBURZ MOUNTAINS (LEPIDOPTERA) (Doktoral Thesis) Yousef Hosseinpour GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY June 1996 ABSTRACT In this study, 8 families and 178 species (at subspecific level 182 taxa) belonging to the superfamilies, Papilionoidea and Hesperioidea in the Central Elburz Mountains (North Iran), were determined. Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) admetus Esp. is new to the fauna of Iran. The following taxa are recorded in the region for the first time. Pieris mannii Mayer (Pieridae), Hyponephele dysdora Lederer (Satyridae), Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) admetus Esper, Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) erschoffl Lederer (Lycaenidae), Erynnis marloyi rustart Kollar, Eogenes a/cides H.-S. (Hesperiidae). Taxonomically, the status of the subspecies of Anthocharis damone Bsd. were discussed, and three names proposed invalidly, Anthocharis damoneIV tpallida Röber,1907 (syn.n.), Anthocharis damone ssp.steinelti Seyer,1984 (syn.n.), Anthocharis damone ssp.fwkleri Seyer,1985 (syn.n.). The subspecific name Melitaea trivia wyatti Gross & Ebert, 1975 is also proposed as junior synonym of M.fascelis microsyriaca Verity, 1950. Erynnis elbursina Byt.-Salz & Brandt, 1937 is proposed as a distinct species. Northern slopes of Elburz Mountains was regarded as Hyrcanian district, while the southern slopes as Elbursian (Anatolian-Iranian). Totally 46 taxa, found as endemics in the Elburz Mountains, were discussed zoogeographically. Key Words: Papilionoidea, Hesperioidea, fauna, taxonomy, zoogeography, Elburz, Iran.
