An investigation about contribution of M-learning materials to learning in vocational secondary education

The developments on informatics have facilitated the education prosess effectively, efficiently and repeatedly and led to the formation and expansion of concepts such as e-learning, distance learning, web-based learning, continuous learning and lifetime learning. Mobile devices; which have features and abilities of personal computers in addition to making classical telephone calls in terms of hardware and software and being cheaper than computers, have caused to changes on usage habits and started to meet many needs of people other than vocal communication. The easy portability of mobile devices and the reality that they are devices which people always prefer to carry on them, highlight them as a simplifying instrument for web-based or distance learning. Based on these facts; in this thesis study, it is aimed to show how mobile devices could be an education platform model for secondary education students and what would be their contributions. In accordance with this aim, a m-learning web platform has been designed and by transforming it to a m-learning system, e-learning was changed into m-learning. To minimize system costs, open-source codes and free codes have been used. It doesn? t have any costs other than web hosting service costs. For this reason, it is also proper for education institutions which have limited financial & computing resources. Proposed system has been used by secondary education students and statistical results have been presented which might indicate factors such as problems confronted with, usage habits and contributions to learning.
