Abstract (EN)
IN METABOLIC SYNDROME INDUCED RATS.Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a public health problem characterized by insulin resistance, abdominal obesity, hypertension and dyslipidemia and associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effects of ALA and CoQ10 administrations on some oxidative and endothelial dysfunction markers in metabolic syndrome induced rats.In our study, 4 groups were formed by using Sprague Dawley rats. The experimental groups were as follows: control group; this group was fed with standart diet. MS group; metabolic syndrome was induced by adding %10 fructose to drinking water for 8 weeks. ALA group; after developing MS, this group received ALA (100 mg/kg/day) i.p. for 5 weeks. CoQ10 group; after developing MS, this group received CoQ10 (10 mg/kg/day) i.p. for 5 weeks. After all administrations, rats were decapitated and blood samples were obtained for biochemical parameters.ADMA (%164) and MDA levels (%62) were higher and total glutathione (%15) and reduced glutathione levels (%21) were lower in the MS group compared with the control group. ALA or CoQ10 administrations were found to reduce ADMA (%35,44) and MDA levels (%17,21) and increase total glutathione (%2,5) and reduced glutathione levels (%7) in the metabolic syndrome induced rats. Serum glucose, insulin levels and HOMA-IR were increased in the metabolic syndrome group compared to treatment groups. ALA and CoQ10 treatments were found to have positive effects on lipid paremeters. Histopathological examination of the aorta revealed decrease in perivascular lymphocytic infiltration in the treatment groups. In conclusion, the results of present study indicate that ALA and CoQ10 supplementions in metabolic syndrome can be useful to reduce oxidative stress and improve endothelial dysfunction and insulin resistance.Key words: Metabolic syndrome, alpha lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, oxidative stress
