Abstract (EN)
The convergence of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) with existing modern wireless technologies refers to the integration and coordination of RIS technology within contemporary wireless communication standards. Here's a summary of this concept: The RIS: Intelligent Surfaces That Can Be Reconfigured RIS are flat surfaces that have been outfitted with numerous small, programmable reflecting elements that can manipulate and control radio waves. They are used to enhance wireless communication by optimizing signal propagation. And Existing Modern Wireless Technologies This term encompasses established wireless standards such as 4G LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi (802.11ac/ax), and other widely-used technologies for wireless connectivity. And Convergence Objectives The primary goal of RIS convergence is to seamlessly integrate RIS into existing wireless networks and technologies, creating a unified and more efficient wireless communication ecosystem. And Signal Enhancement RIS can be employed to improve signal quality, extend coverage, and reduce interference in conjunction with existing wireless technologies. And Interoperability Achieving interoperability is a critical aspect of RIS convergence, ensuring that RIS-enabled devices can communicate and work harmoniously with devices operating on standard wireless protocols. And Spectrum Efficiency RIS convergence aims to enhance spectrum efficiency by optimizing signal paths and mitigating signal loss, which can lead to more reliable and faster wireless communication. And Standardization bodies and organizations play a vital role in developing protocols and guidelines for integrating RIS technology with existing wireless standards. And Regulatory authorities may need to adapt regulations to accommodate RIS technology, including spectrum management and licensing, to ensure efficient coexistence with other wireless systems. And the Benefits RIS on active array convergence offers advantages such as increased data rates, improved energy efficiency, reduced latency, and enhanced network capacity when integrated with modern wireless technologies. And the Challenges include optimizing RIS deployment, managing interference, and ensuring seamless handovers between RIS-enhanced networks and traditional wireless networks.
