Abstract (EN)
Objective: Vitamin D deficiency is thoutght to have an important role in the pathogenesis of migraine. In this study, we aimed to compare serum Vitamin D, Vitamin-D binding protein (VDBP) and Vitamin D receptor (VDR) levels in individuals with and without migraine. Methods: The study group consisted of 46 people with 24 diagnoses of migraine and 22 control subjects with the same proportion as age and gender. Migraine diagnosis and classification were evaluated accordingto the International Classification of Headache Disorders 2018. Midas Disability Scale, Headache Impact Test and Headache Diary tests were applied to the groups. Serum vitamin D, VDBP and VDR levels were measured using ELISA kits. All statistical analysis of the obtained results was done by SPSS 22.0 (Statistical Packagefor Social Sciens). The results were evaluated by Shapiro Wilk test to check for normality, and those with normal distribution were evaluated by parametric (t test), and those without were evaluated by non parametric tests (Mann Whitney U test). Results: In the present study, vitamin D levels between control and migraine group were compared. The levels of Vitamin D, VDBP and VDR were significantly decreased in the migraine patients than the control group. In the migraine group (n = 24), vitamin D deficiency was observed in 11 patients and vitamin D levels were normal in 13 patients. When we compared vitamin D deficienct and normal individuals in migraine group, no statistical difference was observed in means of MIDAS, headache duration, pain frequency, disease duration and aura. Conclusion: In conclusion, we can say that there is a significant relationship between migraine and decreased serum vitamin D levels. But; studies in a larger population are necessary to elucidate the mechanism of vitamin D changes in migraine. Key Words: Migraine, Vitamin D, Vitamin-D binding protein, Vitamin D receptor
