Educational buildings in terms of architectural design Gemlik Düsünür High School example

This study examines the architectural planning and façade design of Gemlik Düşünür High School using qualitative research methods. Qualitative research aims to understand individuals and their social environments in depth. In this context, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with architects and engineers and by examining photographs of the high school in terms of architectural design. Semi-structured interviews with participants are the main data collection tool of the study. These interviews were conducted with pre-prepared open-ended questions and participants were given the opportunity to express their opinions freely. In addition, participants were given the opportunity to ask additional questions. The interviews lasted approximately 20-40 minutes and were conducted on a voluntary basis. The obtained data were examined using the content analysis method. This method includes coding the data, identifying themes, organizing codes and themes, defining and interpreting the findings. The importance of a student-centered approach in school design was emphasized. Participants stated that ergonomic design is related to four main issues: spatializing corridors, empathy, feeling safe, and ensuring that they like the environment. The importance of a design suitable for different age groups was emphasized and it was stated that factors such as furniture dimensions, positioning and material selection should be carefully considered. In addition, photographs covering the interior and exterior spaces of the high school were taken and examined in terms of architectural design. The analysis of the photographs allowed for a detailed examination and evaluation of architectural features. Factors such as material selection, color palette, use of light and environmental harmony were visually emphasized through the photographs. The results of the study clearly reveal the strengths and areas of development of the architectural planning and façade design of Gemlik Düşünür High School. The findings obtained provide a valuable resource for understanding the effects of the current architectural structure of the high school on users and for providing guidance for future improvements.
