Abstract (EN)
The concept of kitsch is a modern phenomenon that emerged after the 19th century related to aesthetic taste and whose manifestations can be seen in architecture. This study aims to examine the concept of kitsch in a theoretical framework and to analyze the kitsch phenomenon in architecture in the light of the data emerging as a result of the theoretical examination within the scope of a certain sample and to analyze it in detail. Within the scope of the study, firstly, the concept of kitsch was examined in detail within the framework of its definition, etymology, historical development and theoretical approaches about it, and then a theoretical research was conducted on the manifestations of the kitsch phenomenon in architecture. The qualities of the concept of kitsch that emerged in the light of these examinations were used in the analysis of the case study. Within the scope of the case study, the focus was on architectural structures with commercial concerns and hotel structures were selected in this context. The case study sample was determined as 5 Star Hotels with Tourism Management Certificate in Antalya Aksu district and a stylistic evaluation study was carried out on these hotels in which kitsch qualities were analyzed. As a result of the study, it was tried to reveal the manifestations of kitsch in architecture and the relationship between hotel buildings with commercial concerns and the kitsch phenomenon.
