Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Master of Science Thesis A VALIDATED METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF MITOMYCIN C BY FLOW-INJECTION ANALYSIS AND ITS APPLICATION TO FLACONS ARIN GÜL DAL Anadolu University Institute of Health Sciences Department of Analytical Chemistry Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dilek Doğrukol-Ak 2002 A flow injection analysis (FIA) method is described for the determination of mitomycin C in the pharmaceutical flacons in this study. Britton-Robinson buffer at pH 7.0 was used as carrier solvent at 1.0 mL/min of flow rate. Mitomycin C signals were detected at 363 nm using UV- spectrophotometric detector. Peak area and peak height signals were used for quantification of mitomycin C and the precision and linearity of the FIA were shown with these signals. The detection limit and determination limit of the method according to criteria of signal to noise 3 were 1.93x1 0"8 M and 6.45x1 0"8 M, respectively. The results obtained with the application of the method were compared to those of high performance liquid chromatography and UV spectrophotometry as standard methods. It was found that the difference of the standard methods and FIA was not statistically significant by using peak area response of FIA. It can be concluded that FIA developed with this study is a precise, accurate, sensitive and cheap method. Keywords: Mitomycin C, Flow-injection analysis, Validation, Flacon.
