Abstract (EN)

Objective: In our study called "The Factors Effected Female Athletes Who Represented Turkey and Attended Modern Olympics : 1988-2012", there was significant increase in the amount of female athletes during Olympic games. The aim of this study is to examine the reasons behind this rise. Material and Method: Being a descriptive research, this also ponder the reason beyond the increase in Turkish females by means of Olympic games, and findings were evaluated by analyzing the content. Firstly, source scan was done, then the elements of female rise linked with the topic were defined. And then, descriptive designs which is based on the interview with the example group and their tendency, were created. Findings: The increase in attendance to the Olympics is valuable with regard of female struggle for life and female sports that helped to attend Olympic games. Approval of female athletes for Modern Olympic Games was achieved after a great struggle. In the first years of the games, women were restricted from the sports which was regarded as male thing "as it was in the antique era." Upon this, women created their own games and were persistent on it. They showed that women could do sports like men could do, and thus they succeeded to be accepted in all field of sports. The time, developments and science legitimated women on this issue. As a result: Some rooted changes in International Politics and Sports Politics helped IOC to redefine the term 'professionalism', organizational structure for women, further, presenting positive support for women, ended up with great female presence, in addition to females' struggle for more space in the sports. Hence, a new color and enthusiasm was brought to sports and Olympics. Today sports is not mentioned without females. In the 2012 London Olympic Games, females as much as %81 of males competed. In every aspect of life, female movement (feminism) continues to break down male dominance and biases. Feminism is about freedom of individual and collaborated decisions. Sports helped and continues to help women to free themselves from restrictor clothes, behaviors, statutes and the belief that women cannot compete and cannot win.
