Abstract (EN)
Bisphenol A (BPA) is an industrially important monomer used in many chemical manufacturing plants throughout the World for the synthesis of polycarbonates, epoxy resins phenol resins, polyesters, polyacrylates and lacquer coatings on food cans as well as storage vessels. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the biochemical effect of endocrine disrupting chemical BPA on the M. oleifera. The plant seeds were germinated in perlite under 26±1 °C. After germination periods, the seedlings were then transferred to 2 L plastic vessels containing aerated nutrient solution. After seedlings were acclimatized, they were supplied with 0, 1.5, 17.2 and 50 mg/L BPA. At the end of the BPA application period, the seedlings were harvested and analyses were carried out. High BPA concentrations developed some toxicity symptoms. Root fresh weights were increased by 117.3% and 17.7% at 1.5 and 17.2 mg/L BPA concentrations, respectively, when compared with the control. Similarly, stem and leaf fresh weights were increased by low BPA concentrations. On the other hand, high BPA concentration was significantly reduced fresh weights of the seedligs parts. A dose-dependent reduction was determined on the amount of chl-a, chl-b and carotenoid contents of leaves. The study indicated that BPA toxicity on total carbonhydrate in the seedling root and stem were dependent upon BPA concentration. However, total carbonhydrate content of leaves was increased up to 1.5 mg/L BPA concentration. The content, however, was decreased at 17.2 and 50 mg/L. Total phenolic contents of seedling parts was increased in low BPA concentrations. In general, toxicity was increased in high BPAconcentration. Increases in H2O2 and malondialdehid contents showed that BPA concentrations caused oxidative stress.
