Mohammed Tawfiq Sidqi's hadith and sunnah approach

In the 19th century, Egypt was one of the important regions on studies and discussions about hadith in the Islamic world. The west having a considerable influence on the formation of Tawfiq Sidqi's mind had an active role in the political and scientific structure of Egypt. That role shows the level especially in the hadith-sunnah debates about the sources of Islamic religion. For this purpose, we have determined our thesis topic about Egyptian doctor Mohammed Tawfiq Sidqi's hadith and sunnah approach. Our thesis consists of introduction, two chapters and a conclusion part. In the introduction part, the topic, significance, purpose and method of the study were determined. The method and sources in the study was mentioned. In the first chapter; the information was given about Mohammed Tawfik Sidqi's life, the scientific and political situation of his time, people having influence on him, his way of thought, his viewpoints about the prophet and the companions, issue of abrogation in the Qur'an, and the other works of Tawfik Sidqi. In the second part, via Tawfik Sidqi's comprehension of hadith and sunnah, we have mentioned topics like Qur'an-sunnah relationship, the relation of mind and sunnah, the binding of sunnah, influence of his view of hadith and sunnah on his fiqh interpretations. In the conclusion, we have completed our thesis by making a general evaluation of these subjects. Key Words: Sunnah, Hadiths, Egypt, Mohammad Tawfiq Sidqi.
