Searching the effects of conflict resolution styles and agression tendency on 4th and 5th grade students in primary school of "negotiation (problem solving) and mediation"education programme

a.To improve ?Negotiation (problem solving) and mediation? education program that aims to teach creative, peaceful and restorable solution ways which will be used in solutions of (10-11 ages) students? interpersonal conflicts who are educating in 4th and 5th classes in Primary Schools.b.To consider the effects of ?Negotiation (problem solving) and mediation? education program on conflict solution styles and aggressiveness tendencies of Primary School 4th and 5th students.In the direction of this aim; ?Negotiation (problem solving) and mediation? education program is improved. ?Negotiation (problem solving) and mediation? education program; is consist of 21 activities which are formed within the 4 main skills that are named as understanding the nature of interpersonal conflicts, communication skills, anger managing skills and interpersonal conflict resolution skills. It is also prepared as an education program which includes 32 hours (period) totally. This education program which consists of 21 activities applied to students for 2 hours per week during 16 weeks.In this study, pretest and posttest with control group design, quasi experimental design, was used. The reason of using quasi experimental design is that it is not possible to assign experiment and control group randomly with a random technique. Because of performing the study with 4th and 5th classes of three different primary schools, quasi experimental design is used owing to impossibility of assignment of students who are educating in some classes to new ones randomly.Dependent varieties of this research are students? aggressiveness levels and conflict resolution styles. Students? aggressiveness level which is dependent variety of this research is measured by using ?Aggressiveness Scale?. ?Aggressiveness Scale? is developed by Şahin (2004). Another variety named as students? conflict solution styles are measured with ?Conflict Solution Skills Scale? which is developed by Sarı (2005).Data concerning to this study is gathered from 4th and 5th class students of Primary Schools which are associated with Ministry of Education in İzmir city in 2006-2007 education year. Statistical analyses of data that are gathered from the research are done by using SPSS 11 for Windows Packet Program.As a result of this study, 4th and 5th experiment group students?, who are educated in ?Negotiation (problem solving) and mediation? education program, aggressiveness points are found less than the ones who are not in this program. This kind of education is effective on reducing of students? aggressiveness tendencies. In the result of analyses that is applied to only 4th class experiment and control group, it is seen that this improved program is effective on reducing the aggressiveness tendencies of 4th class experiment group. But it is not effective on 5th class students. While ?Negotiation (problem solving) and mediation? education program is investigated according to gender variety, it?s seen that this program is not effective on female students but also effective on reducing the aggressiveness tendencies of male students. ?Negotiation (problem solving) and mediation? education program provided experiment students to use the integration skill which takes place in creative conflict skill and to use the undesired conflict solution skills that are named as adaptation, domination and avoidance skills less by improving a positive effect on 4th class experiment group.Key words: Mediation, Negotiation (problem solving), conflict resolution skills, aggressiveness.
