A curriculum proposal for music education major courses

One of the most important elements of the process of changing and improving human behavior is the teacher. The task of training teachers has been assigned to universities in Turkey since 1982. Universities create a program that they determine for the teacher candidates they will train in their own departments; the education system, the problems they may encounter during the teaching process, and in such a way that they can have knowledge about the field. In other words, these training programs are prepared according to the applicability of the information that is suitable for its purpose and can be used in professional life. The Music Teaching program is also being prepared in accordance with these purposes. As is well known, according to the decision of the General Board of Higher Education dated 18/08/2020, teaching programs, courses, curricula, and credits in the determination of field education, teaching profession knowledge and general culture courses to be considered in the ranking and the same with the name of the groups on the condition that the number of course hours/credits to the authorization of the relevant committee of higher education institutions in number and intensity, it was decided. With this decision, as with all teaching programs, the way for new program development or updating studies has been opened in the music teaching undergraduate program as well. In this study, the Music Teacher Training Programs used from the first years of the Republic to the present day and the distribution of the courses in the programs were examined by conducting a literature study. Harran University Faculty of education and teachers music education degree program in accordance with the opinions of students who have graduated from Harran University Faculty of Education Department of music education physical education undergraduate program academic staff and current conditions for the model were developed in consideration of new music. As a result of the research, it has been revealed that the 2018 Music Teaching Undergraduate Program is insufficient. The results of the Theory and Practice of Western Music, Increasing Piano and Polyphonic, Choir lessons as semester and hour, Making Music Formats and Accompaniment lessons compulsory, Instrument Maintenance and Repair, Choir Management, Individual Instrument Teaching and re-inclusion of Individual Piano lesson in the program have been achieved.
